Thank you to all the grown ups who joined us in year 1 for our 'stay and read' afternoon. We explored Bug Club, our home readers, our class library and then got together for a whole class read based on our project.
Year One have been very busy this afternoon making pizzas inspired by our current big question in our Great LIPA Feast project, 'Does Italy have a shoe size?
Our project in Year 1 is all about our Wonderful World. As part of our learning we have been exploring different continents, their foods, climates and their different cultures. On Tuesday the children were lucky enough to become chefs and cooked an "Around The World" 3 course meal. The children prepared and ate all food and loved trying food they had never seen or tasted before
Jellyfish and starfish learnt about Remembrance Sunday today. They were very lucky to explore a real gift given to a soldier in WW1 by the Queen. Year One had excellent questions and showed resilience with their guessing before the item was revealed. The children wanted to make their own poppies so we decided to make two wreaths, one to display in school and the other to display in the Anglican Cathedral to show our respect.
Year One have had an amazing Superhero Day to celebrate all of their hard work learning about a wide range of superheroes, fiction and non-fiction and also to raise money for their chosen charity, Alder Hey! Thank you to everyone who donated and thank you for Year 1 children and parents for an amazing effort with their costumes!
This week Year One have been Captain Explorers when learning about a superhero in the past. We have been learning about Florence Nightingale. We found out who she is and what she did to help so many people. We have made beautiful lanterns that are hanging in our corridors because she is 'The Lady with the Lamp' and we have created some amazing portraits of her. Here are some to show you, check them out!
