11.5.22- Our Science topic this half term has been plants, we have loved using our Maths skills in Year 1 to weigh out how many cubes seeds weigh
10.5.22- In Year 1 we have been loving learning all about 3D shapes, we've even been making them ourselves!
8.4.22- In Year 1 we have finished our Dale Chihuly inspired sculptures! How amazing are they!
8.4.22- The Easter Bunny left an Easter Egg hunt in Year 1! We couldn't believe it we were so excited!!
5.4.22- In Year 1 we have been studying the artist Dale Chihuly. He makes amazing glass sculptures. We are going to make our own sculpture with plastic bottles. But first we had to paint them...
22.3.22- In Year 1 today Izzy from year 5 came to visit us to tell us all about what it's like to be blind and how she learn differently to us. We even got to feel some of her braille. She was so inspirational!
18.3.22- On Friday it was Choose Love day. We wrote all about who we love in year 1.
18.3.22- Year 1 have been learning about churches and cathedrals in RE. They loved soaking up the spring sunshine and sketching the cathedral yesterday afternoon. Their sketches were amazing!
17.3.22- Year 1 enjoyed learning all about keeping our world and oceans litter free in a workshop with Edwina from Big LIPA. We were Captain Imaginative as we became different animals in the ocean and performed our own original song!

15.3.22- We’ve been learning about capacity in Year 1, we have loved seeing how many cups of water it takes to fill different sized containers.
14.3.22- In Year 1 we are continuing our study of the artist Cassandra Tondro. Today we enjoyed exploring printing with different materials!
4.3.22- Year 1 are having a fabulous World Book Day so far! Look at our amazing costumes!
4.3.22- In Year 1 we have been learning about length. We had so much fun! We even measured how many pencils long Miss Beechey was!
1.3.22- Year 1 have been learning all about the seasons, today we became weather people, forecasting the regional weather to our class. We had so much fun!
17.2.22- Year 1 have loved learning all about African Drumming today with a workshop from Russ at SoMi Academy. We had SO much fun!
7.2.22- Happy Children's Mental Health Week! Playhouse class are very excited to grow our plant together, we called it ‘Pippin’. We are going to fill her with positivity so she grows into a beautiful plant.
4.2.22- Year 1 have been inspired by our project to investigate how we can use measurement to further our learning about animals. We are having the best Number Day ever! #NSPCCNumberDay
1.2.22- In Year 1 we have been doing some amazing writing in phonics! Tom Thumb is lost, have you seen him?
25.1.22- Year 1 have spent the afternoon researching the artist Cassandra Tondro. We have loved picking our own leaves and experimenting with leaf rubbings.
18.1.22- We loved having Archie the Therapy Dog in school today. He helped us learn how to label a pet in Year 1 and gave us lots of cuddles.
18.1.22- Year 1 have had a fantastic afternoon exploring the similarities and differences between the UK and Africa. We then voted for where we would rather live. Where would you rather live?
12.1.21- Making arrays out of Cheerios in Year 1 today. Can you tell we had lots of fun?
11.1.21- Year 1 have loved learning all about arrays today, we have started by practically making them. Tomorrow we will be making them with Cheerios- we can’t wait!!
7.1.22- Year One had loved being back in school this week. We have been immersing into our new project “sunset safari”.
14.12.21- Year 1 had a very special Zoom call with architect Pauline Paulson! We got to ask her lots of questions and learn all about her life as an architect and see some of her amazing drawings. We were inspired.
10.12.21- Year 1 are so excited to be in school with their Christmas Jumpers. We are looking forward to a fun filled festive day!
23.11.21- In Year 1 we have loved writing our kind words to send to the Liverpool Women's hospital. "One kind word can change someone's entire day".
17.11.21- One of our lovely children in Year 1 brought in a sunflower head. We have popped it out on the balcony so that the local birds can feast on the seeds. We hope to see lots of lovely birds visit our sunflower. #riverfordsunflower
16.11.21- We couldn't believe our luck today... the teachers let us write on the tables, we were so excited! What a great way for us to show our fabulous maths!
2.11.21- In Year 1 we are so excited to celebrate Diwali on Thursday. We have been designing our very own henna hands today. Aren't they beautiful?
20.10.21- In Year 1 we designed our own buckets and wrote lovely things about our classmates and added them to their buckets. We understand how important it is to be kind to make somebody feel good. We are all bucket fillers!
19.10.21- For Black History Month Year 1 have loved exploring the life of Wangari. We created artwork inspired by leaves and patterns found in the Kenyan rainforest.
5.10.21- In Year 1 we have some children who are very keen to become astronauts. They had to complete an application to go to the moon. Excellent writing Year 1!
6.10.21- Year 1 have had a fantastic afternoon, designing their very own planets then beginning the process of making them. We had the best time getting very messy!
1.10.21-Year 1 have been Captain Collaborative to compare numbers. We have loved exploring the concepts of greater than, less than and equal to through playing lots of games. Play your cards right and rock, paper number were particular favourites!
30.9.21- In Year 1 we are so confident with our number bonds to 10 now, we are now super speedy at matching them up.
24.9.21- The aliens have landed to join Year 1 in celebrating maths party day. We have loved practising our subtilising skills, learning our number bonds to ten, estimating alien eyes and exploring different ways we can measure and compare heights and lengths. We are Captain Discipline!
21.9.21- Year 1 have loved learning about the inspirational astronaut Mae Jemison today. We wrote her some questions we would ask if we got to meet her.
14.9.21- Year 1 have loved focusing on their number formation this week, writing their numbers in trays containing lots of different textures.
9.9.21- In Year 1 we have loved being Captain Discipline by learning a new art skill. We learnt all about the three primary colours and how if we mixed them together they made other amazing colours.
2.9.21- Year 1 loved their first day in school! We had so much fun being Captain Inquisitive as we took part in Scavenger Hunt around the classrooms to familiarise ourselves in our new environment. The Year 1 staff were all so impressed with how wonderful and grown up the children were. Well done Year 1!
