Year 1 and Year 2 had meetings this week about the Phonics Screening and KS1 SATs.
We have added the information to the English at LIPA section of the website.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
What a wonderful, sunshiny day Year 2 had on Monday for their very own Magical Mystery Tour!
We visited the childhood home of Ringo Starr, George Harrison’s birthplace, Penny Lane, St Peter’s Church Hall (where John and Paul met for the first time), Strawberry Field, John Lennon’s childhood home, Sir Paul McCartney’s childhood home and of course, Big LIPA - which was once Paul's school!
The children enjoyed listening to the Beatles soundtrack on board our very own Magical Mystery coach and the teachers did their very best at being the tour guides!
Thank you to everyone that helped us on the trip and a huge thank you to Carl at Vision Coaches for accommodating all of our requests!
'What Did Grandad Paul Do When He Was Little' is the debut children's picture book from author Marie Darwin. Written in poetry, tells the story of Paul McCartney's life, culminating in 1970 when the Beatles disbanded.
Year 2 were lucky to receive a visit from Marie last week, when she read the story to them in our library. She really helped with our Magical Mystery Tour project and gave the children lots of interesting information!
Marie said of her visit: "As a qualified professional in childcare for many years and now a local author, I have to say that the whole atmosphere in LIPA Primary from the moment you walk through the door... from the children, through to teachers and reception staff, right up to Mr Parker, are so welcoming and enthused about the children's learning, that it shines out of you all and it was a pleasure to be there on Thursday!"
Well done to our children who completed the LIPA Reading Challenge in the lead up to World Book Day! Those that read 10 books, won a Bronze Award. The children who read 25 books won Silver and those who read a whopping 50 books, won our Gold Award!
We were so impressed to see that children in all year groups participated in the challenge. Look our for our next LIPA Reading Challenge which will be linked to Mrs Williams' favourite author... Julia Donaldson!
Year 2 have really enjoyed their projects so far, especially learning about our inspiring authors: Roald Dahl, Oliver Jeffers, Anthony Browne and Julia Donaldson.
They have decided that they would like to share some of the books they treasure and sing some songs about reading with their parents and carers!
The assembly will take place on Wednesday 29th March and will begin at 2.15pm. Please arrive at 2pm to be seated. The hall will not be available before this time as the lunch staff will need to clean it after lunch.
Parents/carers will be welcome to take their children home at the end of the assembly. Please just bear with us as we take them back to class - they can then be collected at the normal door.
We hope that parents/carers can join us and look forward to seeing you there!
Year 2 enjoyed a visit from our Governor, Tony Currie's school in Hesketh, Lancashire. The Year 5's stayed with us for the morning and enjoyed a reading session in our library. We loved sharing the story of 'Zog' by Julia Donaldson! The Year 5's also brought their favourite books to share with us. It was so lovely for the Year 2's to have such great role models to look up to.
Thank you to all of the wonderful children and staff at Hesketh with Becconsall All Saints CofE Primary School.
We were also very impressed with our children at LIPA, who gave them such a warm welcome and behaved in an exemplary manner!
The past two Mondays have been very exciting! Each class took a trip to our local library. We thought that it was beautiful and that we are so lucky to have it on our doorstep!
Irene the librarian talked to us about joining the library and we all got a library card. (We are still waiting for a small number of cards. Every child that had a completed registration form, will receive their library card by the end of this week.)
We loved being in the children's area, where we could explore the wonderful books and our visit was made even more special because Irene read a story to us.
She also recommended lots of books.
Take a look at these photos for some ideas of books that you could borrow from the library with your new card.
We look forward to doing more work with Irene the librarian in school!
