The culture of our school is authentic, innovative and dynamic. We create learning environments and opportunities to support the personal progression and potential of every pupil.
Our Teaching and Learning Policy is informed by The Creative Habits of Mind and we are passionate about nurturing learners who value these characteristics. (Please see our LIPA Captains page). Due to our central location, we can access galleries, museums, theatres, music and education venues on foot, and our pupils participate in a wealth of cultural experiences throughout the year.
As a Platinum Awarded Artsmark school, we cultivate creativity, and our pupils are encouraged to identify with creative habits from their early years. Our Art teaching sequence enables skill progression, critical thinking and self-evaluation. Exploring contemporary and traditional artists and designers across movements enables students to contextualise the value of art and culture. Pupils are taught that art expands beyond the sketchbook and classroom, and they learn first-hand how to make and share work on public platforms. Our Artist in Residence works across the schools on enrichment projects and delivers cultural health workshops to support emotional literacy and wellbeing.
Our Creative and Perfroming Arts Faculty (CPA), encourages self-expression, positive self-esteem, and future careers in the creative industries. We do this by developing respect, inclusivity, and creativity through creative and performance art project outcomes. Our specialist teachers explore students' interests to create an understanding between social and cultural values which can be showcased through performance platforms. Learning takes place not only within the classroom but within the wider community by providing students with opportunities to engage in theatrical shows, workshops and to meet industry professionals.
Our comprehensive music curriculum not only teaches fundamental music skills but also strives to ignite a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Embedding music into the daily fabric of school life goes beyond scheduled lessons. Whether it's incorporating music into morning routines, transitions between classes, or special events, we cultivate a creative envrionment that becomes an integral part of each students learning journey. This ensures a deep and lasting connection to the transformative power of music. By engaging students in a diverse range of musical activities, such as singing, playing instruments, and exploring various genres, we nurture creativity, enhance cognitive abilities, and promote collaboaration. Our in-house Music Team deliver tution in a range of instruments, and teach our school choirs who perform at celebration events across the city.
