Year 6 children had their first cross country race of the season on Thursday 23rd September.
The race was held at Croxteth Park and over 50 schools competed.
Our children were amazing and we were so proud of them. We race again on Thursday 30th September and are hoping to beat our own scores each week.
Year 4 pupils have taken on the role of film directors as they prepare for their production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.
They’ve been been re-writing and creating scenes for their modern day re-telling of the play, which will also be filmed.
Their research has involved them exploring history, language, the art of playwriting and some of other Shakespeare’s other plays. They’ve also been finding out about Shakespeare’s life and phrases he brought to the English language including ‘knock knock, who’s there’, ‘a laughing stock’ and ‘fair play’.
LIPA Primary School has received national recognition for its inclusive approach to education by being made a flagship school by Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM).
IQM was set up in 2004 to support schools to provide an inclusive education for every child. To be awarded flagship status a school first has to be rated as a Centre of Excellence and then maintain that level for three years. Only around 100 schools in the UK have achieved flagship status.
The upgrade to flagship status follows an independent inspection by IQM. Its report described the Primary School’s values as “truly inclusive” and added that these values “benefit all leaners.” The report commended all the school stakeholders and recognised it for, “promoting a growth-rich and praise-rich culture that impressively understands and demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of the unique community it serves.”
Located close to Liverpool Anglican Cathedral and serving the L8 area, LIPA Primary School opened in 2014. The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum and uses the creative and performing arts to enrich its teaching and learning in the early development of language, reading, writing and mathematics skills.
IQM described the school’s learning and teaching as innovative and praised the teaching staff for their creative thinking and drawing everyone on board. “They encourage pupils to think and discover answers together. They have a skill in connecting learning to real live experiences and this is a driving force within learning at LIPA Primary School.”
Deputy Head Holly Lucas is the school's inclusion lead. “To ensure all the children with all of their different needs can take part in all activities and feel properly included takes a lot of work, but we do this because we all just want the best for them.
“Being made a flagship school feels really special. It validates all the work, reminds us of why we do it and why it’s so important.”
As a flagship school LIPA Primary will continue to expand its inclusive approach, researching and developing new practices and then sharing these with other schools. Head Teacher Greg Parker says this will help them to keep improving. “The importance of inclusivity for the children can’t be overstated. It helps them recognise difference, celebrate it and grow up to be someone who values it.
“No matter how good and positive our work on inclusion may be, it can always be better. Being a flagship school will allow us to work with other professionals to evaluate what our next steps and priorities should be.”
Our Year 6 pupils have been investigating their very own crime scene after the mysterious disappearance of head teacher Mr Parker. As part of their project Law and Order – Crime and Punishment, the pupils looked for clues within the crime scene and met with Mr Parker’s twin to ask questions about the disappearance. Following this, they met their learning objectives by writing up news articles for the school newspaper in their English lessons, using Who, What, When, Where, Why and How to guide their writing.
The crime scene investigation follows a question and answer session the pupils did with Miss Atherton, who talked to them about her experience of doing jury service. Together, they looked at the role of jurors, what they actually do in the courtroom and how decisions are made regarding a person’s guilt or innocence.
We asked our children to take part in a wellbeing survey recently.
As part of the survey, we asked them to tell us three words which came to mind when they thought of our school.
Our deputy headteacher has collected the words together to create this uplifting artwork, which helps everyone visualise how our students feel about our school.
LIPA Primary School has taken part in creating a forest of Christmas trees which has sprung up in Liverpool's Georgian Quarter.
Dozens of trees have been installed in the grounds of St. Bride's Church on Catharine Street with each tree uniquely decorated by local organisations and schoolchildren.
The Christmas Tree Festival has been organised by St Luke in the City team parish, and has proved very popular.
Pupils from LIPA Primary School, Archbishop Blanche and Windsor Street Primary School have got involved and decorated several of the forest's trees - we're sure you'll agree: they look amazing!
Next week, we have Carl Dutton from CAMHs visiting school to lead a session for parents on managing your child's well being and seeing how we can reduce anxiety in our children.

The session will be on Friday 16th November at 9.30am.
We look forward to seeing you at the session and please let me know if you have any questions regarding this.

They will also be leading a parents workshop. The workshop will run from 9-9.45am and we would love to see as many of you as possible at this event. If you would like any further information regarding this then please speak to a member of staff.
On Friday, the giants came to visit! They were visiting Liverpool for the final time and we were so lucky that they were walking right past our school.
We all left our classrooms and went to the windows. We were so excited because the giants looked right at us!
